Return to player is the share of everything staked that the game returns over an enormous number of rounds. For Plinko it is usually between 97% and 99% — high for a casino game, and still a cost.
Take every slot, multiply its payout by the chance of landing there, and add the results. That sum is the expected return on one unit staked. If it comes to 0.99, the published RTP is 99%. The calculation uses the same probabilities shown on the odds page — there is nothing hidden in it.
It does not mean you get 99% of your money back. Over a hundred drops the spread of possible outcomes is enormous; over a thousand it is still wide. The average only asserts itself over numbers of rounds no individual player reaches. Low risk pays small multipliers often. High risk pays large ones rarely.
