The relationship

A slot that comes up once in a thousand drops can carry a large multiplier without costing the operator anything, because it almost never pays. A slot that comes up half the time must carry a small one. The payout table is simply the odds turned upside down, scaled so the total lands on the target RTP.

Reading a table properly

Look at the centre value first, because that is where most of your drops will land. On sixteen rows at high risk it is commonly 0.2×, meaning four fifths of the stake is lost on the most likely outcome. The headline number at the edge is the one advertised; the centre number is the one you will experience.
